firstplay® infant
play therapy

FirstPlay® Infant Play Therapy is a Play Therapy modality originally developed by Dr. Janet A. Courtney, PhD, LCSW, RPT-S™. FirstPlay® Infant Play Therapy promotes healthy attachment and bonding for children ages birth to 3-years-old and their caregivers. It is a short-term modality that involves the therapist guiding caregivers through providing their child with nurturing touch while telling the story, The Baby Tree Hug©. The therapist instructs and guides caregivers while modeling the techniques using a baby doll.

experiential play therapy®

Experiential Play Therapy® is a child-centered Play Therapy modality originally developed by Dr. Byron Norton, Ed.D., RPT-S™ and Dr. Carol Norton, Ed.D., RPT-S™. Play is a child’s natural form of communication and allows them to process their world through metaphor and imagination. Through a five stage process and an emphasis on the relationship between child and therapist, Experiential Play Therapy® helps children to process through traumatic or uncomfortable life experiences. They project these experiences onto toys and other play materials, the therapist follows the child’s lead into their world, and the child works to gain a sense of control and empowerment which eventually leads to healing. Caregivers are educated on their child’s play themes in order to best support them outside of therapy sessions.

theraplay®

Theraplay® is an evidenced-based psychotherapy model originally developed by Dr. Ann M. Jernberg, Ph.D. that combines knowledge of attachment with play in order to help caregivers and children repair and/or strengthen their relationship. Theraplay® is a short-term model that involves the therapist guiding caregivers and children through different games and activities which foster healthy attachment, fun, and overall connection.

autplay® therapy

AutPlay® Therapy is a neurodiversity paradigm informed and affirming framework for implementing Play Therapy with neurodivergent children, originally created by Dr. Robert Jason Grant, Ed.D., LPC, NCC, RPT-S™. Neurodivergent children are not forced to change their neurotype identity or seen as someone whose identity needs fixing, but rather are supported in meeting their mental health needs while participating in Play Therapy. AutPlay® Therapy values and respects neurodivergent children and their caregivers as partners throughout the therapeutic process.
